Diaries
Structured diary DOCX becomes dated, readable entries. This requires chronological diary content, not arbitrary Word documents.
amara Unfold
Turn supported exports from your digital life into readable Markdown and a shared timeline on your Mac. amara Unfold keeps source references with the records, leaves originals unchanged and works without uploading your archive.
Messages, diary entries, saved places and transactions often arrive in unfamiliar folders and tables. amara Unfold makes supported records readable together, with dates and source evidence you can inspect. Keep, search, edit or move the resulting files with tools of your choice—even without amara Unfold.
Structured diary DOCX becomes dated, readable entries. This requires chronological diary content, not arbitrary Word documents.
Supported CSV, XLSX, XLS and ODS transaction layouts become daily movements and monthly summaries. Compatibility depends on the bank’s export structure.
Read supported stays, reservation status, messages and reviews from an extracted JSON export folder. amara Unfold does not import Airbnb ZIP files directly.
Supported Google Maps saved-place exports include CSV, GeoJSON/JSON, KMZ and selected Takeout structures. These describe saved places; they do not reconstruct every journey or your complete location history.
Select exported Photos originals, Mail MBOX mailboxes, Calendar ICS or Contacts VCF. amara Unfold uses the exports you choose, without unrestricted access to private app databases.
Create track and playlist catalogues from supported library metadata. For local audio files, amara Unfold records available metadata, not copies of the audio. Only an explicit library Date Added places a track on the timeline; it records when the track was added, not when it was listened to. Access to Music.app requires your consent.
Matching Gmail, Google Photos and YouTube Takeout structures provide additional import routes. Export format and structure matter: amara Unfold shows recognized routes before conversion. Google Photos metadata is not an independent photo backup.

amara Unfold shows what it recognizes; you choose what to convert.

Review the result, quality information and full records with their source references.
Markdown records and catalogues remain useful outside the app. Markdown is plain text with simple formatting, so you can read and edit it with tools of your choice.
Explore records by day, month and year. Reference material remains available even when it is not a dated event, and missing dates stay explicit.
Source references stay with the records. Quality reports help you inspect the conversion result and understand its limits.
Media records reference the original files. Generated Markdown does not replace a backup of your photos or videos.
Extraction and indexing run locally. amara Unfold requires no account and sends no archive uploads or telemetry. You choose the sources and destination. Removing a layer from the app removes its index entry, not your originals or generated Markdown.
Your output and local index can contain personal information. The index has no built-in database encryption.
amara Unfold is a working local macOS application. Public download details are not yet provided on this page. Its source is licensed under GNU AGPL v3.0 or later.
Export variants differ. Calendar recurrence rules are kept as source information, not expanded into a full schedule; mail attachment export is not promised. Built-in AI, face recognition and cloud sync are not included.
The open output is intended as a foundation for an optional future connection to amara Memory. There is currently no released import bridge between the two products; amara Unfold remains useful independently.
